We are on vacation and pick up home/work messages once a day. Our machine picked up what I think must have been the tail end of the message "return item linked to your name and DL". So I'm thinking first it is a returned package -- we recently mailed a defective office phone system back to the supplier and I also sell things on eBay. But the odd area code and mention of DL# made me wonder if it had something to do with my brother's death last November (he did have outstanding debts). Then I thought, damn, the crazy tenant we had who threatened us with all sorts of legal action is coming back at us (she has three years which run out in December), and this could be a process server trying to get ahold of us. So glad my message didn't contain the "pre-trial comment" or I would have started hyperventilating! Luckily I thought to google the phone number to find out it is a scam. But I guess my point is that we have several things going on in our life that could lead us to believe this is a legitimate call to return, or worse, be roped into a scam. Wonder how many folks fall for it?
