Yet another solar energy lead hunting pest.
Caller asked for me by name and launched into his scripted pitch when I asked who was calling. He said he was calling from "Solar Brokers America", and my home had been qualified for under the Federal Solar Initiative for a system that would cut my electric bill in half at no cost to me.
When I asked where he was calling from he said Toronto, but was using a fake San Francisco phone number.
So I asked where he got my name and number, and he said they were using a list of qualified home owners that were interested in solar energy (which I am not). When I pressed for specifics on the list, he said it was from "InfoUSA" which is a real 'market research' company near Omaha that among other services sells marketing lists.
I explained that I had received over a hundred phone calls from solar energy lead hunters, and he laughed.
I asked him to removed me from their call list and he said that he would. We will see, but I bet I continue to get calls from these guys.
(Note: there really is a Solar Brokers America which is an extension of Solar Brokers Canada in Toronto. They are not a solar energy producer or installer, just a telemarketing company that calls lots of people in search of the few that are interested in solar and willing to deal with a cold-caller, then they set up a home review and sell the lead and the appointment to a local installer.)
