This number answers as disconnected if you call it but it calls out from San Francisco, CA. To be more precise, the ER at San Francisco General Hospital. had a friend call me from there, was unclear about where she was, called it back and got "this number has been disconnected." she called back later same number and that's when I found out where it was coming from.
If I'm reading this right, it more then just the hospital. It's most likely a trunk line that is mostly used by SFGH but has also been leased to a few "other" businesses that turn out to be telemarketers. There are no doubt a number of faxes on it as well, and if there is a mental health unit, in SFGH, they would also be trunked through the same number, as for the easy listening...in a hospital, dial a random number and then put it on hold.... childish, but a good way to [***] people at 3am
ALSO, any phone that is for patent use, like in er would also get the same number so if some dumb-[***] got bored in the ER waiting room... prank calls... there you go...that could solve all the mysteries...
