I have been called twice by this number today.  I had the same message as PP: "I need you or your retained attorney to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive and I need you to contact me, officer Julie Smith from Internal Revenue Service. The number to my division is 415.234.9586. I repeat it is 415.234.9586. Do not disregard this message and return the call before we take any action against you. Good bye and take care."

The message stated the number 415-234-9586 was to their HOTLINE.... I am going to report to IRS and also block the caller ID on my phone.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

IRS SCAM.
Received a call from this number. I don't answer if I don't know the number, but they left an automated voicemail stating "I need you or your retained attorney to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive and I need you to contact me, officer Julie Smith from Internal Revenue Service. The number to my division is 415.234.9586. I repeat it is 415.234.9586. Donut (sic) disregard this message and return the call before we take any action against you. Good bye and take care."

seeing that it was an automated message and that there was an error in the message "donut" instead of do not I was suspicious. Also, we just concluded an audit with the IRS (Yes lots of fun) and every single piece of communication from the IRS was via US Mail, thus this call added to my suspicions.

I took advice from previous posts and reported this as well.
