They called and asked if I would be home to serve me papers. I did take out a payday loan 6 years ago and paid them off, of course I have no record of this....the account was closed 4 months after all the bills went through which was also in 2006. I called the BBB, and they informed me that these are SCAMS!!!! They get their information and use threats to convince you to send money, Every week it will be a different phone number and a new "law office." In Texas, the statutes of limitations on a debt is 5 years, meaning they cannot threaten to take you to court or anything. In addtion, once they start threatening you with felong charges or the police it is against the law. You can file a complaint with the attorney general's office. One IMPORTANT thing the rep. told me from the BBB is to request all information they have regarding the so-called debt be sent to you. Only then will you review it and determine if it is a legitimate debt. The collector WON"T because they do not have ANYTHING to prove this debt, thus this is something in your favor if you ever happen to go to court. Which will probably not happen.
