I got a call from 412-315-0844 on Oct 16, 2012.  It was a recorded message saying they were from BCBSNC (Blue Cross Blue Shield North Carolina).  The recorded message asked me to verify who I was.  They had my name correct, and I said 'yes'.  They then asked me to call a toll free number, 855-336-3052, I guess it was something about my account.  I thought this was suspicious, so I called BCBS at the number that I know is their customer service number.  The BCBS customer service said they did not see anything on my account, and they did not recognize the toll-free number I had been asked to call.  When I did call the toll-free number, with my called ID blocked, a recorded message asked me to enter my phone number.  I made up a number, but the recording said they did not have it on file.  The recording asked me to call back from the number to which the original recorded message was delivered.  As I guessed from the outset, this is fraudulent.

I happen to have BCBS of NC as my provider and I contacted them directly after receiving this phone call.  I was told that this phone number is NOT associated with them and they will pass the information on to the supervisor.  They also said that they have been receiving complaints about this phone number. This is a apparently a scam, so do NOT call back the 1-855-336-3052 as they are  apparently phishing for information.

I got a call from this number Oct 10, 2013. Recorded voice that was badly garbled, but identifying itself as BC/BS of NC with 'an important message' and asked if this was my name (it was). I couldn't record the number (the timing was awful), but first call-back was a wrong number on my part. None of my BC/BS numbers start with 855. The thing is, I was certain that 855-236 was the AC/exchange told to me (badly), but here the callback number is similar to another telemarketing scammer, 855-236-9042. The interesting part of the message (like a red flag) was 'pass this message along (!!??) and have a nice day.' Huh? Important messages don't include that. If this call was that important, I'll likely get another call. On other caller site said it was about get your flu shot. In any case, I'm not calling back.

And why is BC/BS of NC using a PA number??

This is not BCBSNC! BCBSNC will not call you directly!

First hint should be that when you Google number - Nothing about Blue Cross comes up in search duh...
