They say they are from the Santa Clara County "peace officers" or something like that soliciting for money

Got a call from 408 865 9431, Santa Clara Police Assoc. I thought this was illegal.

sounds like "Police Assoc", just said hello to me, then disconnected. i guess they were asking for donation.

We get calls from people identifying themselves as Santa Clara County Peace Officers Association at least twice a year. This last time I looked at the number and it was 408-865-9431 and caller id says it's SBC Messaging. Is there any indication this is legit? I thought such organizations did not solicit on the phone. Almost always the person on the phone is rather pushy and seems short tempered that you don't want to donate. We've asked to be put on the don't call list but it never helps.
