If they cannot and will not produce paperwork up front upon request saying what you owe and who you owe it to, its not legit.
If they claim they are from some law department, they are not legit and are breaking the law.
When they call again, demand their address. If they do not willingly give it, they are not legit.
Put your bank on notice about any unusual withdrawls and put your SS# on notice. Start making note of dates and times they call. Contact your phone company and ask if they can put a block on this number.
There are sites that do reverse searches, if you have to, give the $15 bucks to get the information if its available. Once you have it, send a cease and desist letter via certified mail with a copy for yourself. When you get notice that the letter was recieved, make note of the date.
If they call again, firmly tell them that they are in violation of the cease and desist letter that you KNOW they got and if they continue to call, you can and will take them to court. Its a $1000 fine per call after they recieve the letter.
Also warn them that you have filed a police report (do so before hand) and will also be suing them for harrassment.
...If all else fails, buy a whistle or blow horn and keep it by the phone. Any time they call, use it. They wont be calling long.
