1st off, these calls aren't originating in the USA so the phone # means nothing. The number is being spoofed. These means they use a computer program to mask their number and make it look like it is coming from another number. We used to do this at my last job just for fun in the office. On April Fools one year, we called the boss and had a number on there for the IRS but my coworker was calling from his own desk phone. The way I handle them is to wait until they leave a voicemail where they have crossed the line. Then and only then do I contact them. At that time I let them know, the debt, which is never valid, is not valid and they have violated the Fair Debt Collections Act. Their call will cease or I will file charges with the local sheriffs office and hand over the voicemail along with a call record. If they call again, answer tell them you are tracing the call, hang up, dial *57 on your phone. This will automatically trace the call and the system will make you through steps to press charges against the person or company for harassment.
