Got a call from Roger Young earlier today, No idea who he is or why he is calling me but what I gather from reading the above is it is obviously debt collection. Sounded like a prerecoded message. It started in the middle and repeated twice. Stated he has an urgent pending matter that needs my immediate attention. I have received nothing in the mail from this company and have lived at the same address for several years so have no idea why they are contacting me by phone rather then mail. Should they contact me by mail I would respond with a request for them to prove validity of whatever they are trying to collect on as well as ownsership of that debt.

Is it legal for a debt collecter to bypass calling & instead go straight to leaving a message on a cellphone VM?

Vanessa did this, on a Saturday afternoon. Asked for someone by first name only. Asked to have that person call her back @ same #, ext.306.
Vanessa did NOT state she was from Bridgeport; she stated it being urgent that call be returned, w/o any reason given.
I do know the person whose first name she used, & that person has already informed this company that the debt is not hers.

We have a very ill friend & panicked that Vanessa was calling in re: to ill friend & panicked.

This company is using scare tactics, disregarding proper notification of inaccurate debt ID and now bypassing ringing the cellphone, instead dialing straight to VM --- IS THAT EVEN LEGAL?

A phone call going straight to VM has nothing to do with who is calling. They can't force it to do that. Most likely the phone just didn't get the signal that there was an incoming phone call. The voice mail is not tied to your handset, so it went to the system that handles those and they were able to leave a message. Don't get so paranoid about something like that. It will only drive you nuts.

If you want to get these to stop calling you, send them a letter, certified. This is the ONLY legal way of getting them to stop calling your phone. Asking them over the phone is not going to stop them and it won't matter when/if you file a claim against them that you did so over the phone. But! You can tell them to not contact you at your place of business. This IS something you can do over the phone. They cannot contact you at your work if you tell them not to.

Yes this very RUDE man called my job and demanded me to give him a phone number when I told him not to call my job anymore. I asked him to give me his name and number and he said NO, not until you give me a number to contact you. I told him I wasn't going to give him a number because if it is so important he can send me a letter. He did not tell me who I owed money to and he continued to deny my request for his phone number. So I told him one last time that we do not accept personal calls at work and if he wanted to talk to me then he would have to give me his name and number. Finally he did give it and I told him to have a nice day and hung up. Well now I will not call him back he can send me letters in the mail to contact me now due to his rudeness.
