Consumer ignorance is their strength. The whole point of the calls for aged debt is to get you admit liability and/or send a check to soothe your nerves, thus resetting the SoL clock.

You can try shifting phone numbers, but the new ones will be found in time. Your carrier may sell it to a list compiler and it may be added to the many databases available to skip tracers. If you revoke call permission the cat-and-mouse game ends immediately. You and not the collector are in control of the outcome.

For an account within SoL a written validation request is wiser. Within that notice you can yank partial or full call permission yet keep a mail channel open to keep from forcing a creditor lawsuit. PRA may decide you're not worth the trouble and never disturb you again. The fact you don't use the phone much rather turns it into a "honey pot" you can monitor for violation$$$.

Hahaha...me send a check...I do not like sending checks to current
bills, much less bills that I have long forgotten about...I have quite a bit
of old debt, there is no telling what they are calling about.

Under normal phone useage, then I would not recommend changing numbers
as they will skip trace, but I seldom use my cell phone, and I learn from
my past mistakes....It may take another 5 years for them to find me...
and then again, they probably really are not that sure either it is me...

I made that one mistake and answered the phone one day saying
yep, this is me, and the calls have been coming ever since....

Once I change, I will never do that again...

I feel if it is an important call, then they can leave a message.

they call me day and night at all different numbers. this last time was actually really close to where i live. they are bugging me about a debt from 1999. but have no idea what car they are trying to have me pay them.
