BEWARE!!! Another b.s. call from Card Member Services. Not Rachel. Or Heather. The robo-recording was a little different so I listened to see what this particular scam involved. I stayed on the line to mess w/ them. The number (spoofed?) is listed online (nuwber.com) as several members of the Sahadeo family - Esther, Khamwatie E, Stephnie Caroline, and Ravin J - all at 7735 Covedale Dr., Orlando, FL. The guy answering had an Indian/Pakistani/Middle Eastern accent/dialect. At first, his name was Ariel. Later it was John Gill. He told me that Experian reported that I am responsible and pay my cards on time (I was late recently, and twice) and because of that my profile was eligible for a rate decrease from over 10% to 6%. Then he said he could reduce my interest rates on all my cards to 0%. I asked what process they use to convince Citibank to GIVE me that 0% interest rate. He said that THEY are the company that issues the cards TO Citibank and other banks. He claimed to be both VISA and Mastercard. (what a load of...) I asked if they had a website to sign up on, to upload info or perhaps a form to fill out and email back. Something secure. I said that I didn't know him/them and had never heard of the company's name. He tried like crazy to assure me that he wasn't a scammer and that giving him my card # would be perfectly safe. You know...because you're not responsible for fraudulent charges made to your card. I could tell he was getting a little aggravated with all the questions; some repeated because he wasn't actually answering any of them. Once he felt like he was losing me I got transferred to another guy who sounded like a local. I had already wasted about 13 min. so I decided to get back to work. Hung up. They called me back 7 times from "000-000-0000".
I was really curious to see how their 'process' works. How do they get the rates lowered? What's the cost? Dude never mentioned anything about a charge for their services. I guess I didn't mess w/ him long enough. Maybe they don't tell you that until you (foolishly) give out your card number and they can charge you whatever they like.
