They said the call was from the U.S. Treasury.  He said his name was Peter with an employee number of 17744. He claimed there was a miscalculation on my 2012 Federal income tax. They threatened if I hung up a warrant for my arrest would be issued and I would be put in jail for 6 months. He said they had proof the IRS was attempting to contact me with a form CP503. He had my address and phone number but could not confirm any other information about me. Caller ID said Anadarko, OK I just hung up.

I got home from work and had 4 messages left on my voice mail from this number all within a 2 hour period.  All 4 messages were identical stating the IRS was trying to contact me - said it was the second attempt and that I would be going court and jail if I didn't call them back.  What a scam!!!  The IRS never contacts people by phone.  They say it will always be by mail.

Total scam.  They left a message on my home answering machine, guy with a heavy Indian/Pakistani accent, saying it was [American sounding name] from the IRS, there was a tax lien, I could be arrested or appear before a magistrate, etc.  Left the actual number matching the caller ID.  I called it for fun, and a woman with a thick Indian/Pakistani accent answers "U-S Treasury Department" (think of Apu from the Simpsons saying it and you'll get it).  Yeah right, the IRS has relocated to Anadarko, Oklahoma, population 6,800, and hired former 7-11 clerks as their entire staff.

This is the message I received:  "This is the United States Treasury.  This call requires serious attention.  Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid the issue of appearance before a Magistrate Judge for a federal offense."

I had a call similar to Tracy's. The person identified himself as David Gray and asked for an immediate call back
