Forget about them verifying the so-called "debts" they are trying to extort money from you to "pay". I have a letter, right here, from one of their lawyers, the one who was appointed to deal with state attorney general offices -- Hah! what does that tell you??!! -- he admitted in writing that all they have is a print-out, they acqire a whole sheet of these written-off debt records, from banks we never heard of. So, they cannot provide any paperwork or proof, as you have asked them to do. All they can do is harass and intimidate people, some of whom don't know any better than to deal with the vermin. As for sending a certified letter to cease and desist, just know that they will not return the postcard receipt, but you can still prove they received the letter, via the USPS database, if the letter was sent certified.
Be aware that these pond-scum decided, in the lawyer's words, to "cease collection efforts" after the atty . general got in touch with them on my behalf, and therefore issued a 1099-C to the IRS. They lied through their teeth, claiming to have "lost" nearly $5000 on something they paid around $50 for. Luckily for us, our income is so low, the extra amount attributed to our income did not affect our tax refund. We sent a detailed complaint to the IRS anyway. BTW, these total idiots have called 94 times since they decided to "cease" collection efforts 10 months ago. We keep a log.
