After reading the comments above (thank you, btw), I was ready for them. They wound up hanging up on me. Ha ha! They're LitFire, a self-publishing company claiming to be "very interested" in my book -- a book that was traditionally published back in 2005 and is still earning royalties today. Since then, I've had more than 20 additional titles published and guess what? The publishers paid me, not the other way around. Self-publishing is fine if you have a platform or a reputation you can build on. It's fine if you know what you're doing. But for a new writer who's desperate to see his or her book in print, it's often a cruel scam. Be warned!
