This number calls and then tells me to hold and then after wasting my time on my cell phone they hang up, they keep saying they are waiting till some one is able to take my call, I didn't call them they called me. what is this and why are they calling

They also call from 402-509-8100. They are a collection agency trying to collect on a $34 medical bill from over 8 years ago. I have proof of payment directly to the doctor office right after it went to collections but they still insist I pay it. I told them they need to send me a copy of the debt before I will give them any of my personal information and that IF after my research it is valid I will only pay them with a money order or certified check. They then started calling my work and asking to speak to my boss so they could get him to get me to pay. Once I informed them they were in violation of the FDCPA they hung up. I called back and got a supervisor who informed me that they would write the debt off due to the inconvenience. I still filed a complaint with the attorney general in my state.

Tell them that you are not the person they are looking for and if they don't stop calling, they are in violation of the FDCPA and you will file a formal complaint.

They say it is Credit Merchant as stated in posts before, but when I ask them for proof of the debt that they are calling about they just keep saying that I need to give them my social or my bank info to verify. They have been calling for over a year and I have called the place that they say the bill is from and I do not have a past due balance. Also, they hang up when you answer the phone so there is not a chance to tell them to stop.

(402) 201-2839 is a fraud. Try to block the caller number on your phone, but for sure report it to the police / FBI
