AMEN.  This crap has turned into a constant PITA..

I received a call from this number (401.343.9764) and it was a recording. I stayed on the line thinking I could get an operator who could assist me with putting my number on the do not call list.

When I spoke to an operator and requested to be put on the do not call list, the gentleman lowered his voice and spoke " F*** you b****. Go f*** yourself." He then asked me if I could do that. I replied " excuse me?" He repeated it. I asked to speak to a supervisor and ironically we were disconnected. I tried to call back and received a message staying there's no such number in service.

How can the number show up on caller ID but not be a working number when I call back?

Ronnie, your comment is remarkably silly.  Who on earth are you that you think your say-so is enough to get authorities to shut down a number?  You could be correct -- or you could be somebody wanting to harass the owner of that number.  You could be trolling your ex, or people whose views you disagree with.  If you were a business person, you could be trying to hurt another business.  It takes time to mount an investigation, and guess what? -- a government that has had its protective budgets reduced isn't going to have the resources or staff to care about your hurt feelings or your silly conspiracy theories.

[***] called and let it ring once and then hung up.  So Sick of this scammers.  Can citizens form a class action against these  scammers for harassment?

Invest in a call blocker and DO NOT pick up on call numbers you do not recognize.
