this person called about a car listing on craigslist inquiring and wanted to mail me a check via us bank.and wanted to know my address so he could make arrangements for shipping.

Typical scam.  He sends you check for, say $4000 even though you want only $3500. You send him difference by Western Union.  Check bounces, you're out $500 and no sale on your car.   Stay away...who buys a car sight unseen?
