You are 100% correct Michelle. If you go online to irs.gov like I did after my calls, these scams are outlined in detail. I also spoke with an IRS agent at 1-800-829-1040. The woman there also assured me the IRS never will call and threaten jail time, fines, etc. Everything they will communicate to a taxpayer is always done first via US mail. They may follow up on that letter,but never call beforehand randomly on cell phones. These people likely work out of a call center in another country, which probably explains the bad technology. I hope this post will stop somebody from making a payment to this bogus scam. Just hang up, this is not a legitimate call.
