I am a natural-born U.S. citizen living in the U.S. and have worked as a telemarketer of sorts. We were doing "surveys" which I knew were actually a way to advertize a company or product while circumventing the "do not call list". "Scientific" surveys, charity and political calls are not subject to the "do not call list" law; probably "free" contests as well, hence the giveaway scam. It is HORRIBLE, stressful work filled with stress from the boss to hit your quota and stress from the victims who may or may not cuss you out. You are generally paid minimum wage for this abuse, but are thankful for an income at all, albeit temporary. I'm happy, killabeez, that you have steady, well compensated employ during these hard times, but I am sorry that you have no compassion on those less fortunate. About this number, if I were to hazard a guess, I would say it is a rerouted foreign group harvesting "live" numbers to create a calling list. Do not answer the phone and confirm your number.
