Scammers - Original call received from 360-203-0018 (Washington) & was told to call 215-249-6010 (Pennsylvania) about criminal charges against me. FYI: it's illegal for the IRS (Treasury Dept) to contact tax payers by phone. If they do, which is only if you have reached out the them first by email/mail, they must have a 5 digit PIN (that you have to generate yourself) to identify you. They are required to give you this PIN number before any further correspondence. If they do NOT know about this PIN number, get the number wrong, or beat around the bush by giving you a (fake) badge or officer number HANG UP or spam them back (because passive aggression is fun too)

Got a call stating they were the IRS and failing to respond will result in an arrest and gave a different phone number to return their call.

I called them back after missing a call and they answered "US Treasury Dept" in a thick west Asian accent.

There are numerous telephone and email scams in which individuals claim to be employees of the Treasury Department. These scammers often state that they are from the “Department of Legal Affairs,” offer grant money in exchange for you wiring a small payment, or threaten to arrest you within a short period of time unless payment is made. Do not provide personal information or payment to these individuals.  Their actions are crimes under Titles 18 and 31 of the United States Code, and the Treasury Office of Inspector General is working to stop them.

If they claim to be from Treasury, report  it to OIGCounsel@oig.treas.gov with a description.  If it was a phone contact, include:
the exact date and time that you received the call(s)
the phone number of the caller
the geographic location and time zone where you received the call
a description of the communication.

If they claim to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or it is about taxes, report it to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at:
