We received a voice message on our answering machine stating the IRS was filling a lawsuit today. When I called back at 360 200-0891 a women answered and when I asked if I had reached the IRS office, she said no, then quickly corrected herself and said hold on. A man with broken english answered my call, gave me his badge numbet DC1928 and said his name was officer Jerry Rice, (Mr. Jerry) and that we were being audited for years 2008-2012 due to miscalculations and incorrect information on our tax forms. I had a very hard time understanding him, but he patiently repeated everything. We owed $4,821.69. They had tried to contact us 3 times by mail, but we weren't home and the information was too confidential to leave with a neighbor. He said each time a slip was left in our mailing box telling us to go to the post office and retrieve a letter. Since we didn't do that the letters were returned to the IRS. If we didn't pay tonight, our credit rating would go down, our bank accounts would be seized as well as our driver's licenses and the local authorities would be probably being coming to take us in. He would be able to stop the court action if we could pay $1,446.50 by going to an address he would give me and having the money converted to an electronic voucher. When I told him I couldn't get that much money tonight, he put me on hold for a second time. There were many voices in the background-probably other scammers-and it was extremely hard to understand. While on hold I googled the phone number and read the comments so when he returned to give me the address I coukd take my funds, I told him we were going to consult with our lawyer before doing anything and he said that they would move forward with the lawsuit then.
