Left a message saying that there was a lawsuit against my name and physical property.  Did not leave the name of the person they were trying to reach, or their name or company's name.  Also did not leave a case or identification number of any kind.  Stated that it was very important that I call them back at this number

The number 347-779-0198 is a number assigned by YMAX Corp., which is either a wholly-owned subsidiary or a captive carrier of the company that sells magicJacks.  In other words, the parent company makes its money primarily on the sale of magicJack devices and services.  MagicJacks go for about $100 US each in India and include several months of free calling into and out of the US using a US phone number that is from the list of YMAX Corp. available numbers.  All a cowardly scammer almost anywhere in the world needs to do is to connect his magicJack to the Internet and a phone (after perhaps obtaining a phone number using a computer) and he's ready to commit crimes in the US with little or no risk of getting caught.  

There are ways of filing complaints with law enforcement, directly to MagicJack, or to YMAX Corp. to get them to permanently disable any given magicJack device due to a violation of the company's terms of service.  But evidently, from the continued flow of complaints against magicJack numbers that I detect here, there must be a large percentage of people gullible enough to actually pay money to these scamming criminals.  Thus, when a scammer finds his magicJack has been disabled, he probably just buys a new one, having already turned a handsome profit on the disabled one.
