My mother received a call today from Johnny at Virtual PC Secure who told her that her computer was infected with viruses and that he could fix her computer for her.  She is older and not familiar with computers.  She gave him access to "help" her fix the problem.  He installed a program called Advanced WindowsCare Personal 2.6.0 2.6.0.  Once he showed her all of the "viruses", he put a payment screen on the computer to let her pick a protection plan for the future.  This finally started the warning bells in her head.  She told him to stop everything and give her a phone number to call him when I got home.  After talking with some friends, I did the following:

Unplug internet cord
Called ISP (Time Warner) and asked them to change or reset my IP Address
Checked all Programs to see what was installed.
Removed all suspicous programs
Restored to a few days earlier

My friend will be checking my computer out futher tomorrow to make sure a keystroke program was not installed.  Luckily she did not give out any account information.  I will be filing a complaint with internet security office, my local department of justice consumer protection as well as with the local FBI office.

I just had a phone call from Virtual PC Secure - Brad Miller - he said that someone was sending messages from my computer.  He asked me to turn my computer on.  I told him that my computer was not even plugged in.  That the Power supply was out of the machine because I had it checked today.  He insisted that I plug it in.  I am sending this to you on a substitute computer.  My computer has been down for over a week because it would not turn on.  The caller gave me his name and phone number and said that I should try to turn the computer on and that he would call again tomorrow.

I don't know how to report this scam.

Yes I received a call today as well.  They have been calling me for a few days and I finally decided to pick up.  It's a TOTAL scam.  I did not give them anything.

Beware!

This number is from a person named Kevin (doubtful) claiming to be from Microsift ITExpert Support - he and co-worker, Darren Smith, claimed that our computer had been hacked into and infected with the Alureon Virus - but, for a mere $250 we could pay for their services to remotely access our computer and remove said virus .... we were suspicious, asked for verification, they gave us some CLSID# (Geek Squad said this was something they had never heard of).  So, we hung up and called Geek Squad.  Thankfully, we do not have any such virus nor were we hacked into ... this is a SCAM!!  Beware any callers claiming to be Kevin/Darren Smith from PC Secure with this number: 1-347-480-2444

This is a scam!  Callers are claiming to be IT experts from Microsoft and that our computer has been infected by the Alureon virus and has been hacked into ... but for $250 they would remove all threats ... ugh!  Claims to be from PC Secure
