Had a call like everyone else.  K, I have never come across a person from India on the phone (Lord knows that is all we get now a days) with a common name like ours.  That was my first red flag.  I got to the point where the tech was going to take control of my computer and stopped them there.

This woman called out of the blue claiming she was support for Windows - that my PC was infected. Asked me to run CMD and then ASSOC and read out the 32 digit code that matched my PC. This is a SCAM - hang up on these idiots.

Unavailable/Unknown number called me. A woman with heavy accent called, and knew my last name. Said my computer was sending many error/warnings to Microsoft and was vulnerable to hackers. I explained I have very strong security software, but she said it would not stop this type of attack. She even gave me my "computer id number" and said I could open up my computer and find this same number on the inside....to prove she was being truthful. I ended the call (after taking her name/number) and did a quick online search to see this is a scam. Sadly, it sounded like she was in a call center.....so there are likely hundreds of people falling victim to this.

Person with heavy foreign accent, calling himself David Young, said he was calling from My Windows Support. Claimed my computer was hacked and wanted to assist in removing the malicious software. Asked me to press Windows + R; then type EVENTVWR. At this time, I asked for his name and contact number (347) 480-2300 and would call him back. After searching information on this number, it appears this is not legitimate.

A Kevin called me about my computer being used by hackers. He got me to cough up the money, but I called back right away and asked for a refund. I called my financial institution and they froze the account right away, and I also went in person to get them to freeze the account and only enable it again if a refund came through. Plus, I changed the card number I've gotten my credit card bill, and there's no transaction/record of the payment at all. I'm pretty sure I didn't get scammed, financially, but I still feel so gullible. I'm never going to trust any phone call ever again. Where the hell is humanity going? This gives horrible impressions of the people and their morals, if they had any.
