My 88 year old father in law was just scammed today for $1500 dollars. The scammers called last night claiming to be his nephew from Puerto Rico, but visiting family in Texas. He said he was leaving Texas to drive up to Cleveland to visit. My father in law was delighted, since he hasn't seen him in years. They got a call from the so called nephew around 9am saying he was leaving Texas and would be in Cleveland around 6pm. My in-laws prepared a room and dinner for his arrival. Around 1pm, my inlaws received a call stating that he was just in an accident in Illinois and needed money to pay this guy off. ThIs so called nephew said he had 2 checks and $300. But didn't have enough cash and would pay my father in law back when he got to Cleveland. My father in law agreed and sent it to a Western Union in Mexico. Later this evening he called his nephew's wife, to get his nephew;s cell phone and found out the nephew was asleep in bed in Puerto Rico.
