Caller was soliciting money for local Am Vet chapter that does not give to the national organization.  Local Better Business Bureau did not have anything on them.  They wanted me to leave a check under the door mat and they would pick it up the following day.  They gave me a P. O. Box in Abilene, TX, but not a physical address.  Requested a copy of the 990; will see if I receive it.  They don't like to "waste" stamps.

I just received a call from the above number. I wonder if the comment above got the receipt she requested. I tried to call them back to state that we had changed our minds after trying to find info online or in phone book about them. They didn't answer although I called back within 5 minutes of the "confirmation" call for our donation.

This is what I found online about this number= L Jones, 1938 Beechwood Ln Abilene, TX 79603 (325-677-1166).
Do you think it is asking for donation for vets? I used to give to these callers and leave the check at my door, but I quit this practice. It is not safe I could be giving to anyone.
I did not answer and they hung up and left no message.
