1st time for THIS 1! Altho I'm an animal lover, this was from a legit # I believe as the Caller ID came up HUMANE SOCIETY. I grew up with doggies & my spoiled brat of a Chocolate Lab is laying by me & the 'puter. AW! She's 10 but acts like a puppy! Anyway: the LEAST they could have done was leave a message. NOPE! A hang up. Natch. I hope THIS won't be a habit. And WHY would a Cali based Company call as we're in IL? At 5:35PM CT. Stay tuned!
BTW: A nice lady from USGOV actually called ME & is HOPEFULLY blocking the 2#'s I've had problems with for 6 weeks. I'll keep everyone posted!

A company in Los Angeles named Paetec Communications is apparently a phone bank and has land lines phones at least in the range of phone numers 323-330-1422 to 323-330-1461.  I got tired and stopped checking after so many.  Each number comes up on caller ID with the name of a charity that you might have had some previous contact with.  Don't get mad at Planned Parenthood or the Humane Socieety.

Caller ID showed:
HUMANE SOC
323-330-1460

Didn't answer when they called at 7:30pm on a Monday. Called the number back, and an automated message said they were Donor Services Group, calling on behalf of the Humane Society. The message said to hold for a moment while they connect me with a representative. That's when I hung up.

I just got the phone number when I began my stay at a Marriott ExecuStay apartment in Little Rock. The 323 number was on the caller ID from several weeks before, as well. I donate my time and money on charities at the local level...not at a national level. National organizations like HSUS and ASPCA have larger personnel, overhead, and outreach costs. Local rescue organizations need the funding more and can do more with the resources and money that is donated to them.

I think it is a debt collector trying to locate someone. They call and ask for a name...if you agree that you are that person, they have found their target.  They figure people will identify themselves to a reputable charity.
