guy called claiming he was with angie's list and wanted to talk to the owner about the reviews people have left and what he needed to do in order to respond. we don't even have an account with them

I was a subscriber to Angies List and to the best of my knowledge,  individuals can belong to Angies list not businesses.  When they get a complaint about services of any company or individual, they attempt to resolve the problem by contacting the person or company who rendered the service to rectify the issue.  Most likely you had a customer who was unhappy about a product or services and they gave your business a poor rating.  They then follow up the poor rating or complaint. Many times the issue with the company name and location as well as the attempts to rectify the problems were published in their monthly magazine.
