Maegi, I was going to ask the same question. I get calls from numbers "that are disconnected or no longer in service". In fact I get calls from numbers like that a lot so i log them in my iphone and title them "Junk". Now "junk" comes up on my caller id for about 5 different numbers and they are from all over the country. They only thing I can think is that my number is floating around in a tele-marketer data base because I bought something over the phone several years ago.

It's not paranoid. It's a computer savvy individual who can fake a location and number. You can do it too. Just do some Internet research and you will find out how it is done. And Yes, it is illegal!

Have gotten calls from this number on and off for the last year or so.  They never leave a message & when I tried to call the number back to see who would answer (approximately 2 minutes after the call) I received a recording telling me the number had been disconnected.  They didn't say when or how long ago.  Interesting, how can you get a call from a number which is not in service, meaning it doesn't exist in the phone company's database.  I'm not paranoid??  I'm getting calls from numbers which do not exist!
I'd love to know who is trying to contact me and how they're doing it from a number which is not in service.  Probably being used illegally for outbound calls only which tells you they can't be up to anything good and are not going to be doing whatever it is legally!
Good Luck,
Maegi
