My habit of recent years of not answering the phone unless the caller is properly identified on the ID has worked well for me. Otherwise, I answer and immediately hang up so that I don't have to listen to the constant ringing. My call blocker doesn't begin to have the capacity to stop all calls, and besides, I don't find it worth the time to try to enter all the numbers of unsolicited callers. I'm resigned to the fact this incessant calling will never stop. When only 15% of the funds collected go to the charity and the rest go to the telemarketer, I personally think that telemarketers should qualify as a commercial caller and be subject to fines.

Just my 2 cents.
Like everyone else, I receive my share of Irritating Unwanted Solicitation Calls too.  

And I realize that not all solicitors who call are bad people.  Some may be volunteers representing noble causes.
But we live in a time when many less intrusive options are available for soliciting besides making calls that interrupt and annoy thousands of people each day.  

I have to ask.  Why would anyone EVER give their credit card number to a stranger on the phone in the first place?  Obviously some people do it….because Unwanted Solicitors keep on calling every day and every night.

And I'm always surprised to read comments from those who believe our dis-functional Federal Government should be doing more to stop solicitors from calling their phone number.  

Think about how much it would Cost for our Government to respond to MILLIONS OF COMPLAINTS submitted by MILLIONS OF CITIZENS who have Landlines & Mobile Phones in 120 MILLION HOUSEHOLDS across the U.S.  

It would require hiring and paying a Full-time "ARMY of Investigators and Attorneys" to search, arrest and prosecute Thousands of solicitors who are violating the DNC law.    Good luck with making that happen.  
Besides, many solicitation calls originate from overseas where our government has no jurisdiction.

Solicitation calls are driven by “Opportunity For Profit".

Remove or Diminish the Profit Opportunity and Solicitors will Stop Calling.

There is no perfect solution……but I do believe that if EVERYONE answered those unwanted calls and  
hung-up EVERY-TIME then ultimately Lack of Profit Opportunity would Stop Most Solicitors from continuing to call.

BUT ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE MUST “PICK-UP AND HANG-UP”.

This 'caller' has been ringing my phone every hour on the hour.. I know it's a robo call, it continues to call the same number until they get an answer, then they assume you are home and have a real person contact you in that time frame.  Problem is, I have an answering machine, they call, it picks up, they hang up half way through the outgoing message...  I refuse to answer numbers I do not recognize and if it were important, they would leave a message telling me so... Just another number I will have to block, except they have a number of them coming up 'MICHIGAN CALL' on the ID, just different numbers.  Do they really think people are that stupid???
