My daughter has been contacted a few times from 240-696-8264 and given a message for her brother to call them with a case number for a trial date he has. The contact there was Shelly Starks. I called this number to let them know not to call the number they have listed my son has not will never be at that number. Instead of MS Starks I got some guy with an attitude. I expained that my sone has been in jail and to take the phone number off. The man hung up on me after that. I returned the call after my daughter said she read about this number on this web site saying it was a scam.
I told the person there this and he said They were going to make sure my son stayed in jail longer and if I keep calling back they would have me placed in jail also.  I would really like to find someway of reporting this to some where they can stop this kind of activity. We are in Virginia.

My former neighbor received a call and a message from this number.  The man identified himself as Thomas Washington and told her there was a civil suit agianst her neigbor.  She assumed it was me, since I was having personal property damage problems with my former landlady.  I know that any REAL civil suit takes place only when papers are served and they do not make phone calls asking for credit cards.  This is definitely a scam to get money and I bet this is a pre-paid phone number too!  I suggest you report this to the local police and also the phone company.  That is the only way they will get stopped.

Typical illegal debt collector ploy. If I were you, I'd track them down and sue them for fun and profit. (Federal debt collection law prohibits a collector from disclosing anything about an account to a third-party. The same laws prohibit a collector from threatening actions that it has no intention of undertaking.) And you're right about the "civil suit"...it's a phony. If a civil suit had been filed against you, you would've have been notified by the court.

If I were you, I'd contact a legal professional (many of whom will work on contingency) to extract some painful monetary damages from these scumbags.  In the meantime, you may want to also file a report with the consumer affairs division of your state's attorney general and with the Federal Trade Commission here: https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01

Call came in at 11:18AM 12/29/07 from caller ID 240-696-1708. I was told that a Civil suit was filed and I needed to call 240-696-8264 to respond or find out more information.

Same deal, I got the call today (Dec. 29) claiming a debt I had which was over 10 years old, (I surmised this since they told me my address was where I lived 10 years ago) from Fidelity Federal Bank (who I have never done business with). I picked up right away that it was a scam and I asked for their address. I was told, they can't release it for security reasons. They said their company name was "Litigations Consulting Services LLC"

I tried to locate this "company" online but I got no results. The reverse phone lookup shows the number as "residential" but I must admit, they sounded very professional.

After I questioned them and suggested they were just trying to scare me, the lady talked over me and hung up.
