Got a call this morning at work on my cell phone. Said Cleveland, OH. I answered bc I have family in that area. She asked if I was an elementary school. She had an Indian accent. I said no you have the wrong number. She asked if the number she had dialed was a landline or a cell phone. I told her it was my cellphone but she had the wrong number. (Shouldn't have told her that...oops!) She said she was trying to reach Field Elementary School. (I know someone who used to actually work at a Field Elementary School in the same town my cell phone number is based out of.) I asked her where Field was located. Because the one I was thinking about no longer existed. She gave me an address...which I didn't recognize. I asked what city. She told me Columbus, which is where Field was but in a different state, I assumed she meant Ohio because that was where the number was coming from. I asked her which state? Then she said sorry for bothering you and hung up. I was trying to help her! I thought she was looking for a place that didn't exist anymore. I didn't realize it was a scam before googling the number. I don't own a business and my number has been my personal cell for quite a few years. Luckily I didn't give out any information besides the fact that the number she called is a cellphone.
