I've gotten two calls from this number, just starting this week. As mentioned previously, a message is not left, and there is no one on the phone when you answer and say hello. I checked the number online, and it is a Verizon number located in Carversville, PA. I blocked my number (*82) and called the number to see how they would answer. You only get a voice mail which states, "We apologize for not being able to answer your call. All of our agents are busy. If you have any questions regarding a phone call you may have received from this number, please leave your number, and we will get back to you as soon as possible."
I am assuming this is some type of company soliciting business through telemarketing. Many years ago when I was telemarketing, we used a consumer database, a telephone directory, or some other public listing. Nowadays, random number calling is done, so that everyone will eventually be called. They choose an area code and an exchange, then the last four numbers are random - 1234, 1235, 1236, etc. The numbers are automatically dialed, meaning that they have a system where a human does not even have to be at the telephone.
Any time my phones rings, and I have to stop what I am doing to answer it, I get extremely annoyed when no one is on the other end to speak to me. And - more so annoyed that I cannot speak to a human and ask that my number be removed from their list.
