I got a call on my cell from this number: 214-646-8789. When I picked up the caller (woman) asked for me by my maiden name. When I asked "who is calling" she said my name again and said that there is no message to be left so she would call back later. When I Googled the number, it pulled up: 24/7 Emergency Locksmith. I call the number back on a landline and the greeting was: "Thank you for calling, Total Card. This is an attempt to collect a debt..." Who are these people? I don't even have any debt.

This is a company who is indeed a debt collection company- but they are using illegal practices to collect from debtors....first they are listing their company as a different company instead of private, unlisted, etc. Next they are asking for private info which tells me they are probably doing a nationwide database search to see if any other companies are owed debt - wich is again illegal- the asking of private info. Also FCC states debt/telemarketing calls to cells are both authorized once the person being called has informed the caller that they are calling a cell phone and to please use another form of contact- if they ask you for another number- just tell them to use yet resources and politely hang up. This company will threaten you with arrest warrants, coming to your home, work, church, etc.. and also with court-- they're full of bull**** and they will never go beyond harrassing calling due to their highly illegal practices.

Kept demanding to speak to the owner of the business, all he would say is "First Card". Very rude. Kept demanding to know when the owner would be here. No idea who this person or company could be.

In my case this was apparently a robo-call. If you don't say "hello", or something to trigger the message, it hangs up. (I wonder if answering with "bueno" would get a spanish version?)  If you did say anything to trigger the message, wait till it asks for a yes or no response. Say nothing, or anything but yes or no. It will repeat the question & you give the same response.
It doesn't know what to do & eventually gives up.
If you have a limited number of call-blocks available, this may help a lot.
