Got call claiming to be from the Legal Affairs of the Treasury Department claiming a warrant had been issued for me and asked for my attorney's contact info (heavy Indian accent).
Later said warrant was on hold. I said I hadn't received a notice and he gave me the number of Steve Williams (213-283-6752 - same number as he called from) and stated that Steve Williams worked for the IRS and would send my notification letter. I said I'd give Steve a call. Didn't give him any other info.
Did Google search and found this feedback board. - Sure glad I did.
I called back same number, a person with an Indian accent answered. I asked to speak with the person I had just spoken to. He asked my name, then within 3 seconds said that I had a warrant issued in my name and that I was in serious trouble. He couldn't have looked up my info that quickly.
I stated that I'd researched the phone number and found it to be a scam and if he called me back that there would be serious ramifications. He confirmed that if HE called ME back there would be issues, and I said yes. He then raised his voice and said "I don't think so!" ... then hung up. :)
Hopefully no more calls.
Don't even think these guys are legit. I'm so happy that I read responses from others here because I did think that I was in trouble for something - although I hadn't done anything wrong (filed my taxes late this year, but that isn't a crime).
I'm not sure how to turn someone in for this type of fraudulent activity. The guy told me the other guy I was supposed to call worked for the IRS (at his same phone number. Blatant lie. Hope they get in trouble.
