Just received a call from that number I didn't pick up but when i called back it said the Verizon number wasn't in service

Calling this number back results in an error message that says the phone number is invalid, disconnected, or no longer in service. Which means whoever called was using a spoof number and you cannot determine who is responsible. If someone is using a spoof number in the first place, it is almost guaranteed it is illegitimate.

They either get your number from some other list or they just do random dialing until a phone rings. If you answer or goes to voicemail.... Bingo! They now have a real number....

Like most things run by government, donotcall.gov is worthless. It is a waste of time. But if it makes you feel better...
