IRS message

My friend got a call from (210) 981-1071, the caller identified himself as an IRS Agent and threatened legal action and to have my friend arrested if she didn't make a payment of $5680.28, reference delinquent back taxes for the last four years. My friend called me due to me being in law enforcement. I called him back with the case number he had provided and my friends name, posing as my friends accountant. He again advised he was an IRS Agent named Alan, ID # W7348. I pressed him for a number to verify he was truly an IRS Agent. He would not provide one. I eventually gave him my real name and work number. He actually called me at the police department to verify I was a law enforcement officer. He called me back from (630)-493-5291 which showed on the caller id as a government number. Alan then admitted it was a scam an tried to get me to pay him money for information on other scam artists in the United States, advising he was from Bangladesh. I goggled the (630) 493-5291 and it came back to a library in Illinois to assist foreigners with IRS questions. I don't know how they are manipulating the phone numbers but FYI...the IRS will not CALL YOU on the telephone advising you owe them money. Anyone doing this is a scam artist. Also all the callers I talked to had a middle eastern accent.

Caller represented herself (prerecorded message) as being from the IRS and threatened legal action if I did not respond. I received one of these messages previously and called the IRS. They assured me that they do not telephone people. I am going to their web site to see if I can give them this phone number although I imagine the scammers change telephone numbers frequently.

Just received call from 210-981-1071.  Googled number and got this site.  Thank you to above law enforcement that helped friend.
What a SCAM.  How many elderly people are falling for this???????????

This was a threatening automated call.  The caller (a woman) claimed to be affiliated with the IRS.  She threatened that a criminal lawsuit was being charged against me, and that I must return the call or have my attorney return the call immediately.  The threat, however, was surely from an amateur.  No government agency would say, "If you don't call, I'd hate to think what will happen to you!"
