I have always found those calls to be less than edifying ...
Examples:
Lights go out, A/C dies, computers go on backup power, emergency lights go ON.
-- a half hour later, CPS calls, and tells me the power is out.
Eventually, the lights come back on, the A/C starts again, and computer backup power supplies stop beeping, and the emergency lights go back to charging.
-- 15 minutes later, CPS calls, and states the power outage will be fixed in a half hour.
In the interim between outage and restoration, any calls to CPS are answered by a recording, that essentially says, "lots of other people called, and we are working on it".
I really do not want to denigrate CPS too much though. They do a pretty good job of supplying power to my area (which is near the end of their main lines, and seems to be subject to a lot of transformer blowouts and lightning hits). They probably have to make a LOT of calls to tell us the power is down (or up, as the case may be).
