caller id said the call originated from 860-333-5094 but the heavily accented man gave 209-790-3925 as his callback number.  irs,magistrate,jail time

Said his name was Alex Ferguson on phone message. Claimed to want to help avoid appearing before the magistrate for a 'serious federal crime.' 290-790-3925 was the number he left. Didn't catch the called ID.

No problem with "Alex Ferguson" helping you now that he's not manager of Manchester United Football Club. Do these foreign criminals who make up these names not think that anyone would know? They often use names from movies, TV shows & books. We've had John Carter (of Mars), Steve Martin, even names of 'The Backstreet Boys'.

Don't call back. I received the same phony message with a guy named "Alex Ferguson" and he had a Latino accent. Yeah, right.

Yes, this guy Alex Ferguson called us twice today and left a message on our voice mail.  He scared the crap out of my wife.  My suspicion is that this is a tax agent who wants you to pay him to get you out of any problems you might have with the IRS.  He could also be a major international criminal.  Either way, what he said over the telephone is complete BS.  The IRS, the US Treasury and the U.S. Attorney's office do not handle anything like this.  They usually paper you to death and when they call, they say who they are and on behalf of what agency they are calling.
