I got an automated voice mail on my work phone from 877-622-8894 saying they were Regence Blue Shield and that they had important information for my wife (they used her first name). They left this number and a seven-digit ID number asking that she call them back and then input that ID number. At first, I thought the call might be legit and called the 877 number. The recording I got mentioned my wife by name which is when I smelled a rat. The 877 number isn't listed to any of Regence phone I could find. At work, I also get an email with a voice recording of all voice mails, but the number listed was 208-297-3937. That's a Boise, ID number but not listed to any business.

8776228894 REGENCE-UT and they call saying they have important info and leave your name and a 7-digit PIN/ID. I called a different Regence # to find out. They researched it. This Is "Cancer Prevention Outreach Program" Blue Cross Blue Shield "partnered" with Silverlink Communications and is contacting Blue Cross Blue Shield customers selling scans etc. Sort of Telemarketing to sell scans and tests but is actually related to Blue Cross, and some customers benefit from it that they explained.

Thank you for the clarification. I received a similar call from 503 388 6176, purportedly from Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield, and was told to report back to 877 622 8894, with a seven-digit code.  Have no intention of doing so.

Let us hope that, within our lifetimes, all such privately run, for-profit insurance companies will be abolished and replaced by a publicly-owned, publicly-administered national health care system, as they have in Canada, the UK and Scandinavia.  Obamacare simply doesn't make the grade, as it is still largely in private hands.  I have been the recipient of long-term care in Britain, and it is hard to beat.
