Everyone.  And I do mean Everyone.  The solution to phone woes is so simple:  If the number is unrecognized, just don't answer.  The caller is ALWAYS the one taking the initiative to convey a message.  If it's important to THEM, they will leave a message.  No message, don't sweat it.  Too many hang-ups, or irrelevant sales pitches, or stupid threats, block the number.  Now enjoy your life.

This is number phishing for your number being active. More than likely to sell to someone to then target your number with other spam. If any one answered this or called it back are now on a list somewhere --- I called it back from behind a switch so its a generic number and it was answered with a message "if you want to be taken of the caller list press one" -- basically phishing for your number via caller ID

and to backup what AHG said  --- I will never answer a number I do not know .... same rules as email should apply ... all unknown messages are junk. If someone wants to talk to me they need to identify themselves and if I don't know them they need to state the reason for calling.... how many people open their front door when someone rings the door bell with out looking through the peep hole or at least cracking the door open first .....

Recieved a call, & didn't answer right away, but when I did, they had already hung-up after only a couple rings. When I called back, there was an automated voice telling me to press "1" to be placed on the "Do Not Call List", which I did, then was informed it may take up to 48 hrs.

All you did was let them know they have a live number..

Do a search on call blocking devices and phones.If its a cell phone, there are free call blocking apps out there including trac & straight talk.
