It is NOT a scam. I didn't answer the call, but returned it. Sure enough, someone stole my credit card number, had made a bogus $1.00 test charge on Amazon, and was already starting to make purchases elsewhere. My credit card company reversed the charges and cancelled the cards. This isn't the first time this has happened to my family.
If you get a call like this, you don't have to answer or give them any information, but CHECK YOUR CREDIT AND DEBIT CARDS FOR WEIRD $1.00 CHARGES! They are test charges that indicate someone has stolen your card number. If the charges go through or you ignore it, the thieves have a green light to use your card number.
