Same "hang up" came from them for me and I know they started to hang up as soon as I started to say "You need to remove......"
However, it didn't end there, I called the number back, and on the dial-back the phone was answered with a recording that said "If you wish to no longer receive these calls, enter 1"; I did, it acknowledge the delete and the call was over. I half-way feel that call back will be acted on since they prepared their system for it.
Our number has been on the National Do Not Call list since it was made available. For the first several years it was honored (fear of the $10,000 per incident fine). Companies had to pay out for the DNC database an implement it getting a new database each month, it was expensive and they resented it from the get-go. In recent years unwanted calls are getting to be almost what they were before the DNC and I suspect that's because enforcement is weak, very weak. I've talked with agents and they are either NOT trained about the DNC list and the penalty and some even deny it exists. Actually all the calling is done from a call center where a machine dials the next number and hands the call electronically to the next agent hanging up from a prior call. In that sense it's not the agent's fault, the DNC numbers have to be removed from the software system originating the calls in those centers. I've been thinking about writing my congressman and senators, but with the election, unemployment, etc. on their plate I doubt it would get serious attention.
