Just got the same call with the same message. Interestingly, I was here and the phone didn't actually ring. Glad I saw this page and didn't call them back.

This is the Better Business Bureau.

It's the BBB's sales people trying to scare small businesses into paying thousands for accreditation. The BBB is a not-for-profit, PRIVATE COMPANY which often pretends to be a government agency in order to trick business owners into giving them money. If you have received a call from these crooks, don't call back.

My one-man small business was called by 206-431-2222 and they left this message: "This is the Better Business Bureau. My name is Steve Hughes. This message is for the owner of the company. Please return my call at 206-431-2216 extension 1:31. I will be in my office until 4:00 PM. And again my number is 206-431-2216 extension 1:31."
If you talk to them, ask: Are you a government agency? Are you a consumer watchdog? Does your "business grading" rate the actual product and service? (Hint: the answers are all "no".)

It's too bad, too -- a long time ago they were useful.
