I own a bbq restaurant and have been receiving many calls from this att relay service, always leaving messages with my servers.  Finally, I anwered the call.  The att operator relayed that this person named Gert Bacoon wanted to place an order for 300 BBQ sandwiches with a side to be picked up.  All of the anwers were vague.  He kept wanting to pay via credit card.  He gave me an email and a phone number.  I wanted to send a catering contract and credit card authorization form, and as soon as I asked for that he hung up.  Then, I called the number he gave me to find it was a fax.  Wanting to confirm this was a scam, I search the number online and found hotrod's response which confirmed it.  Hope this helps someone else!  Wish I didn't wasted my time on this sort of thing.

I own a gourmet gift basket company and I received a similiar phone call last week.  The person "talking" to the AT&T operator said they wanted a gift basket with a 18K or 24K gold necklace in it.  The name was the same Gert Bacoon.  When we tried to run the credit card for a "deposit", it was declined.  The person called back via the AT&T operator.  This time the AT&T operator quietly told me that their service is being used by Nigerian scammers.  I hope this helps other small business owners.

I received a fax asking for a price quote on an order for 300 BBQ ribs and pulled pork.  Wanting me to charge to a credit card and also add the cost of shipping b/c the shipping company's credit card machine was down.  C'mon!!!!.  Sounds like my experience was exactly like the others!

My parents own a BBQ restaurant in Raleigh, NC. My mother called me today to ask me to listen to an email that she got from someone that was hearing impared. The person first contacted her using a relay service. After having trouble with the relay, she asked them to email her with the information on what food they wanted to order for a catering. The email that was sent asked for about $1600 worth of ribs and sides. They also asked that she swipe a credit card for $3400 to pay the difference to a shipper company who would pick the food up. When my mother called me and read the email I immediately knew that it was a scam, having worked for a bank, and seeing this type of stuff everyday. The words used in the email and the way it was written makes it seem as if it is someone who isn't acquainted with the English language. I'm pretty sure it is someone oversees in a foreign country who has started trying to scam catering businesses. She emailed them back telling them that she would need their name, address, and driver's license number. Of course they have yet to respond!Although my parents knew from the beginning that this was a scam, because the person asked to pay other people through Western Union; I'm sure that someone out there has or will fall for this scam. SO BEWARE! The email address that they used was Gert.Bacoon@gmail.com. I hope this may come as help for someone in the future.
