I also received a call from the cell number in LA telling me I was being sued by the IRS.  It shook me up,so I can fully understand how people fall for it.  I told the guy with a foreign accent that I always pay my taxes but his script that he read said I would be arrested without bail or legal representation.  I told him that I wanted the case number which he never provided.  He continued to read his criminal script and I interrupted and said I would go to the IRS office tomorrow to look into this further.  He told me I owed $1,989.  Seemed like a lot of effort for that amount of money.

I think I asked so many questions he hung up on me.  I reported to whole thing to the inspector general for the IRS and the FTC.

Received a voice message on my home phone threatening an IRS lawsuit to be filed against me
if i do not call Tel. No. 206-201-2495 immediately.
Of course this is a scam.
The IRS always sends letters. The IRS does NOT call people and threaten them in this manner.
Best course of action is to DISREGARD and NOT call the number.
If you call the number you will only be harassed and scammed to a greater degree.

There is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

USA tax payers should read this:
http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/Phone-Scams-C ... 5-Filing-Season

Canadian tax payers should read this:
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/nwsrm/lrts/2013/l131210-eng.html

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

This scam is also described as scam #11, here:
