I received a text message from this number asking me if I was still interested in a Z71 on craigslist. As I have contacted several ads from craigslist, I couldn't recall ever contacted this particular number. I feel it's a scam, so I looked the phone number up only to find that it is from CT...I'm in AL/GA area.

This is a scammer who poses as someone selling a vehicle at a very low price on Craig's List. Unlike most other scams- which give themselves away by only providing an email address- this new method actually provides a seller cell phone number. When you inquire about the vehicle via text message, the response will be something to the effect of, "give me an email address so that I can simply email you all the car info." If you ask via text as to when the vehicle may be seen, you will be told to correspond only through email.

As far as I can tell, the person is being paid to farm the email addresses of interested buyers, so that the paying party (the separate party sending the email) may then attempt to scam them out of money.

When I informed this person that I was forwarding their number to the FTC's enforcement department, his/her response was "and to your mom, nothing?" Hardly the response of a confused seller. Don't do business with anyone at this number.

On a side note- hey FTC... mind getting off your butt and doing something about these guys?
