very treating call from this number, demanding my attorney call them to settle an overdue irs payment   which I do not owe

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers in both Canada and the USA.

I just received the same recording from 202-506-9692, demanding my attorney call them. This was a recording. I do not owe any taxes and will report this number to the IRS as a scam.

I just got a ridiculous call from this number-mos of it was unintelligible but they did say that they were the IRS. They said that I should take the call seriously before they began proceedings for "legal allegations". And at the end they wished me a nice day! Too stupid...

I just received a call from someone who specifically claimed to be the IRS.  She threatened that I must make certain not to ignore the call and must get back with her or face legal action against me.  The message she left said to return the call to (202) 506-9692 which she said was the direct hotline to her division.  Too stupid!  I am glad we can look up these scams on-line.
