I got the very same call half an hour ago. The person on the phone had a very thick oriental accent and his English was hard to understand. Judging the background noise, he was calling from a crowded call center. Same story; there is an arrest warrant against me and if this issue can not be resolved now, police will be at my doorstep within two hours.
Well, I knew this scam very well. As a matter of fact, it was covered at a local TV news program not long ago.
I acted stupid and let him tell me the whole story. Meanwhile, I had my iPod handy and recorded the whole 17 minute conversation.
I was asked to go to a nearest Radio Shack store and get a $1,249 worth pre-paid card, he called this "government document" and asked me to call him back on my cell phone as soon as I purchased the card. When I said I did not have a cellphone, he asked me to borrow one from a neighbor, since this call is very important.
At this point, my wife who was in the room and listening to this comedy, could not stand any longer; picked up the phone and yeld at this guy that she knew this was a scam and asked him not to call this number ever again and hung up.
He had the nerve to call back right away and asked her if she wanted me to go to jail. She yelled YES and hung up again.
I will call the IRS scam line and report this incident.
